The ‘Other’ Social Networking Sites
Posted by Ben Stuart
Facebook. Twitter. Myspace. Bebo. It’s very likely that you would have heard, and may well of used facebook. The same I’m guessing for twitter. Then theirs myspace, which while it has seen a fall in users over recent years (‘thanks’ to facebook), it’s still a widely known social networking franchise. Bebo too.
But what about the other social networking sites. The ones that maybe are not quite the household names of the above, but they all have their own unique features, that make them worth a look.
If you fancy a change from the usual social networking site, these choices can offer that. Also, you could be an early adopter of ‘the next big thing’. Because, yes facebook has been sitting comfortably at the top for some time now, but it won’t necessarily always be that way. In fact, I’ll be more surprised if it didn’t change. After all, remember a few years back when myspace was the most used social networking site? facebook took over, but more and more competition has being cropping up. twitter now has more many more users since it begain in 2006. Then, Google plus, anyone? It may not of taken off to facebook proportions just yet, but it’s worth noting that many people share content through Google plus, including through using the ‘plus 1 button’, so even if more people stayed updating their status on facebook, maybe Google Plus will be come the number one for sharing and rating content.
Of course, just because a site has more users, does not mean it’s the better one. A big reason why people choose to use one social networking site over another, is because those they want to interact with are on that particular site. So if another site manages to come up with a great feature the others don’t have, or maybe just do something much better, they could take a share of the ‘big hiters’-or at least get them using their service alongside the big hitter in question.
The social networking market has the potential to get very heated.
The first of the ‘other social networking sites’ I picked for review is Prefspot. That will be on its way soon. In fact in the next post, as it goes.
